COMPANY
William Greaves Productions, an independent film production and distribution
company based in New York, has been producing and distributing films
since 1964. Under the direction of the pioneering African American filmmaker,
William Greaves, the company has earned recognition from the national
and international film-viewing community for the excellence of its work.
At the center of this work are many ground-breaking documentaries that
explore the contributions and the struggles of the African American
people. Among the more recent productions is the 2-hour PBS prime time
special, Ralph Bunche: An American Odyssey. The award-winning
documentary was funded by grants from the Ford Foundation, the National
Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
and other foundations and individuals. In addition to numerous documentaries,
the company has also produced several feature films including the classic
Ali, The Fighter and the critically-acclaimed under-ground
film, Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One, which is currently
being released theatrically by Janus Films and will be distributed to
the home video market by The Criterion Collection.
William Greaves Productions also distributes its library of educational
films to schools, colleges, libraries, special interest and community
groups as well as to various cultural institutions.
